The Type 1 Diabetes Defense Foundation is a nonpartisan Oregon-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to advancing equal rights and opportunities for Americans with type 1 and other forms of insulin dependent diabetes. T1DF depends on individual donations and accepts no industry funding.
Your willingness to step forward initiated important developments for the rights of students with diabetes in our community.
T1DF cares about the significant social impact of living with a condition that requires patients to make constant dosing decisions with drugs that, without careful management and monitoring, can kill them.
We believe in a world where people who use insulin have full access to education, employment, and health care.
We work through impact litigation, lobbying, and campaigns to raise public awareness about discrimination that affects people with T1D, whether discrimination means direct limits on access or demands to waive legal right to accommodation as a condition of access.
Civil Rights Program
Our current civil rights program focus is on K-12 school access and accommodation in Washington State and Oregon, including compliance with Section 504 and access to emergency glucagon in case of life-threatening severe hypoglycemia.
Consumer Rights Program
T1DF’s current consumer rights program challenges the overpricing of analog insulins, emergency glucagon kits, and blood glucose test strips.
